Determining Our Self Worth . . .

Pete Earthlé, IdeasNConversations @IdeasN

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

But often, words do hurt us. Any time that this is the case, it means that we have become confused about our identity, that we have forgotten our worth as a human being.”

Jonathan Manske shares his ‘Daily Dose’ that are insightful and inspiring – they are meant to “helping you to do better”.

“You Can Actually Make A Choice” – Prof Danny Dorling

Pete Earthlé, IdeasNConversations @IdeasN

Professor Danny Dorling said it plain and simple. There is freedom of choice when not in fear and frightened. Having a choice is a realistic value in every human being. However, there are many who don’t have that choice because of inability to save resources that they need.

What this means to you?

  • Self assessing your abilities to gain independence that will give you the choice you wanted in life

  • Make priorities about what makes sense in spending your earning and save, save, save some or most of your income. Your future will depend on that success and choice. Having adequate savings will provide you that choice to enjoy living life independently

  • Refrain from being ‘subservient sucker’ to capitalism or being an ‘economic slave’ – be yourself, practical, use commons sense, exercise independent thinking that will give you that ‘real choice’

Are you discharging leadership qualities; developing your personal leadership competency; or pretending to be a leader?

Why don’t you validate your leadership qualities whether relevant to today’s environment or you have been using a practice that is obsolete and inhumane. It will be a great idea to re-assess oneself based on qualities of #Real Leaders as shown below;

Getting Hired and Not Being Hired – “the syndrome”

By Jalenn Turre, Marketing, Business & Social Media Strategist

Hiring people is always been a puzzling activity within any size of organization across industries; where making an investment to the new hire as an asset; particularly when you look at its bigger landscape and not focusing on minor elements of screening, interviewing or on-boarding documentation. There are many facets of employment process that require more foresight, business analysis, legal implications and strategic approaches to achieve best success in hiring a competent member of the work force.

On the other side of the hiring organization, are the perspectives of candidates. There are expectations that each candidate wanted to pursue. There are numerous blunders that they will encounter during the application process. In today’s employment landscape, the challenge of any job seeker is ‘how can I get hired syndrome’.

Every candidate believes that all studying, preparation and readiness to work are within oneself. But the syndrome is keep floating around and most are chasing those employment opportunities here and beyond.

_2016-amigettinghired_beinghired_wwuibnc

The Officers of International Business Club at Western Washington University has recently requested Mr. Juntee Terrenal’s expertise to share them professional insights and strategies that will overcome the ‘how can I get hired syndrome’ to prepare them for their employment adventures after graduation.

Senior and graduating students who will participate in the workshop will experience hands-on competency acquisition, critical thinking reasoning in creating an active strategy that will achieve employ-ability, and independent decision making to select which employer will benefit them for a long term career regardless of international location.

Candidates must develop their own personal case in order to get hired. Looking through beyond oneself and create that synergy of acumen and competency is all that it takes.

Definitely, the senior students who will attend the session of Mr. Terrenal will gain from his insights.

Thank you.

“Empower the Next Generation” Said First Lady Michelle Obama

By: Juntee Terrenal, GMS, ▪Competency ▪ Experience ▪ Results

This clip of a session about “Working Families Summit” that was held in June 2014 is very interesting; got my curiosity and interestingly I learned many things that Mrs. Obama have shared from her experiences in both the corporate life and the importance of family balance.  Everyone,  young couple or parents must view or listen to their conversations regarding family.

One experience she shared that caught my attention has validated the negotiating skills that I normally discuss and coach clients for employment interviewing;  her realistic presentation of herself relating to her current situation when she went to an interview with the University of Chicago Hospital was a demonstration of competency that employer cannot ignore; she got the job!

I have been advocating this approach to clients in the last 20 years and many were successful in getting their value met at the table. Interviewing is an activity of negotiation; not presenting and listening followed by shake hands and then will hear from either party later. If one likes to get ahead in the 21st Century, do like what Mrs. Obama have done. This is an ROI-driven strategy and technique that will balance your competency and commensurate compensation.

Indeed, fascinating to hear of her experiences during the early stages of the Obama family (Barack and Michelle with Malia and Sasha)

“This is who i am, I got a husband who is away; i have two little babies; they are my priorities, if you want me to do the job, you got to pay me to do the job; and you got to give me flexibility; flexibility means that I will work my tail of for you, but you better pay me and value my family” – First Lady Michelle Obama

“Trailblazing can hurt sometime, some of it may not feel so good; you are doing it for men and women who don’t have that voice; and cannot take the risk, so we have to be the one to do it for them” – First Lady Michelle Obama

Exploiting Millennials’ Employ-Ability in the 21st Century

By: Jalenn Turre, Marketing, Business & Social Media Strategist

Many employers will soon get impacted with millennials’ preferences about job and their perspectives. Do Millennials worry about getting employment or they don’t care about it. There are numerous researches that were published about millennials’ behaviors, views, perspectives, and personal preferences.

On Thursday, February 11, 2016, Juntee Terrenal,GMS, International Businesses & Leadership Coach; Founder, ReloNavigatorTM & Chair, IBBAsSM will illustrate through a “workshop of millennials’ the hows and why into taking advantage of the employment environment in order to pursue their career through their preferred environment.

@2016_ ExploitingEmplMillennials

Employers will be competing of hiring those who are personable and upfront in finding a job. However, there are twists and turns for the employers in sustaining their will be new found hires. The #millennials demonstrate a vicarious mindset, working styles, personal principles and #professional outlooks and needs; notwithstanding that they are #adventurous.

“they are relatively unattached to organized politics and religion, linked by social media, burdened by debt, distrustful of people, in no rush to marry— and optimistic about the future.”

Every employer must adapt collaboratively and mutually in order to justify their attractiveness to these no-holds-barred young professionals.   They may be young but their potentials are high yet beyond employer’s expectations.

Antiquing Style In Leadership Is Not “What Leadership Means Today”

By: Jalenn Turre, Marketing, Business & Social Media Strategist

Internationally, today’s situations are very alarming, confusing and demeaning to read or hear about the news where executives abuse or take advantage of the people whom they work whether employees or clients. Across media platforms, they illustrate cheating, scandals, bad mouthing, ‘screams’ at the top of their voices and greed are omnipresent.

I sat with our multi-culturally experienced leader (Juntee Terrenal) and asked his views about these prevalent behaviors. These are few of what he shared;

Few people take advantage of the people they work with for short term gains for self-serving entitlement.

Many of the so called leaders of today are afraid to get out from their cocoons. They wanted people who work with them to adapt into their personal work styles and practices instead of fostering collaboration, welcoming other concepts, ideas and styles that they were not familiar.

Oftentimes, you see a lot of them portraying ‘lip servicing’; many are short of displaying what they said as who they were; because their insecurities blanketed them; they are living in their own comfort zone with ‘antiquing style’ of leadership.

#antiquingstyleofleadership #antinquingleadership #leaderscircle #leadership #people #21stcenturyleadership

There is nothing wrong in using concepts that were practiced successfully in the past decades; it is admirable because you are aware about them, however you need to be innovative in reflecting and integrating these to present landscapes, people and situations.

We are now living in the 21st Century, a digital world, we need to project our leadership perspectives holistically in order to become more relevant to our society.

The following pointers were put together after gathering useful insights from our experts in our international teams, perhaps their ideas will help you in refocusing the achievement of your goals effectively;

  1. Before joining social media group or attending a networking group that is hosting an event or any type of event;

    1. invest some time to learn about the background of the group if it benefits your intents and purposes

    3. where possible or applicable, have an open mind of learning about others who normally attend the events
  2. People who attend these various events have different needs to accomplish;

    1. listen actively: watch of signals, actions, phrases used, and articulation – you can determine so and so whether it is worth investing additional time or not
    2. rise above those who will try to impose their personal views, these are not the right connections to be with
  3. Create an influencing opportunity; be ready to discuss objectively about your goals in attending the event;

    1. do not give a sales pitch, however share why you are attending with reasons that are in line with the host’s objectives

On Gardening: Understanding Carbon Cycle When Gardening Can Help in Slowing Climate Change

By: Juntee Terrenal, GMS, Strategic International Business Leader, Adviser & Coach

Gardening is one among the simple options that can help in fighting the progressing Climate Change. We can begin in our own backyard or at least in our planters regardless of the area where we live; in a major metropolis, suburbia or country side.

Everyone can participate in our own little ways. #savetheplanet #climatechange #gardening

Juntee Terrenal, GMS, Founder of ReloNavigatorSM & Chair of IBBAsSM has sought permission from the Author, Tom Karwin; of which he granted re-publication of his article. The article first appeared in Monterey Herald dated July 3, 2015. Please click the provided link to see the original source.

Tom illustrated in his ‘restoring your soil’ article that is found below about the Carbon cycle affecting our environment; the role of soil, its complex components and implication to plants; and provided helpful concepts that others can integrate in their gardening activities;

Tom Karwin writes a regular column at Monterey Herald; his articles are also documented at On Gardening;  is president of the Friends of the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum and a Lifetime UC Master Gardener (Certified 1999-2009). A board member of the California Native Garden Society, a long-time member of the Garden Writers Association.

On Gardening: How restoring your soil can help fight climate change by Tom Karwin

_Gardening Soil

The threat of climate change has become a concern among scientists, environmentalists and gardeners (who might wear all three of these hats, of course). In the search for a solution to this problem, these three interested parties have common ground.

Our climate is changing as a result of a disruption of the carbon cycle. On Earth, a fixed amount of carbon moves through different forms: liquid, solid or gas.

Carbon enters the atmosphere from several sources, including respiration and decay of animals and plants, eruptions of volcanoes and releases of dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2) from the oceans.

Plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and use photosynthesis to release oxygen back into the atmosphere and convert carbon into sugars that support the plant’s above-ground growth. At the same time, up to 40 percent of the CO2 goes to the plant’s roots, to feed soil microbes. The microbes help the plant acquire nutrients through its roots, and lock (“sequester”) carbon into the soil for very long periods.

The carbon cycle supports Earth’s climate and enables the growth of plants and all other living things.

This complex natural process balances the amount of carbon in liquid, solid and gas forms. Vast amounts of carbon are stored in the soil and fossil fuels, and much smaller amounts are stored in the atmosphere, the oceans and plants.

During the Industrial Revolution (about 1760 to 1830), humans began burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, draining wetlands, converting grasslands to large-scale crops, paving paradise and applying synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides. These activities have been disrupting the carbon cycle and altering this important balance.

The consequences include degraded soil with reduced ability to capture carbon, an excess of carbon in the atmosphere and the acidification of the oceans, none of which is beneficial to living things (including us).

The broad term, climate change, encompasses all of these negative effects.

Restoring the natural carbon cycle could reverse climate change.

Restoration requires feeding the soil with organic matter and planting cover crops to protect the soil from temperature extremes and erosion. In short, the solution is based upon regenerative, organic agriculture.

This strategy must be employed on a global scale, but we all should understand the carbon cycle and support this process of soil restoration in our own gardens and in our individual contributions to relevant public policy. Substantial private interests are invested in fossil fuels, “conventional” monoculture agriculture that depends upon synthetic chemicals, and other industrial methods that are changing our climate. They can be expected to resist this strategy of working with nature, so eventual success requires our vision and long-term commitment.

Each gardener could participate first in his or her own garden. That would be a fine way to celebrate our independence from, in this context, commercial interests.
