#LGBTI Australians Gain Support From Religious Leaders for #MarriageEquality

Pete Earthlé, IdeasNConversations @IdeasN

Perhaps Australia will be coming at age to accept ‘#MarriageEquality‘ among its citizens.

Hopefully, their divisive political leaders will come to an agreement in supporting this socially impactful legislation for their #LGBTI citizens.

Recently, Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was called by religious leaders to legislate marriage equality now.  Here are some of their highlights; (source: equalitycampaign.org.au)

  • More than 100 Australian Religious Leaders have called on the PM Malcolm Turnbull to legislate for marriage equality now.
  • Support from all major Australian religions – leaders from Catholic, Anglican, Uniting, Buddhist, Muslim and Jewish Faiths, the Salvation Army and the Quakers.
  • This is about Civil Marriage Equality – ensuring every Australian is afforded the same dignity and respect.

Sensible Global #RealLeaders Agree With President Obama “Help Protect for Future Generations” #ClimateChange

Pete Earthlé, IdeasNConversations @IdeasN

The whole world like our planet earth to be livable in many centuries ahead. Every individual can do their part in fostering cleaner environment for everyone to enjoy including the future generations that will come. Bigotry and hypocrisy  are aliens on this planet earth. The Trump administration can quit anytime from Paris’ COP21 but the American people will not.

I’m confident that our states, cities, and businesses will step up and do even more to lead the way, and help protect for future generations the one planet we’ve got.” – President Barack Obama, June 1, 2017

President Obama released his vision about the continuing advancement of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change even in the absence of American government administration. Please find below the full text of President Obama’s Statement pertaining to Trump’s withdrawal of USA from the Climate Pact Agreement.

Statement by President Barack Obama:

A year and a half ago, the world came together in Paris around the first-ever global agreement to set the world on a low-carbon course and protect the world we leave to our children.

It was steady, principled American leadership on the world stage that made that achievement possible. It was bold American ambition that encouraged dozens of other nations to set their sights higher as well. And what made that leadership and ambition possible was America’s private innovation and public investment in growing industries like wind and solar – industries that created some of the fastest new streams of good-paying jobs in recent years, and contributed to the longest streak of job creation in our history.

Simply put, the private sector already chose a low-carbon future. And for the nations that committed themselves to that future, the Paris Agreement opened the floodgates for businesses, scientists, and engineers to unleash high-tech, low-carbon investment and innovation on an unprecedented scale.

The nations that remain in the Paris Agreement will be the nations that reap the benefits in jobs and industries created. I believe the United States of America should be at the front of the pack. But even in the absence of American leadership; even as this Administration joins a small handful of nations that reject the future; I’m confident that our states, cities, and businesses will step up and do even more to lead the way, and help protect for future generations the one planet we’ve got. Statements of 68 US Mayors leading 38 Million Americans;

“We will intensify efforts to meet each of our cities’ current climate goals, push for new action to meet the 1.5 degrees Celsius target, and work together to create a 21st century clean energy economy.

We will continue to lead. We are increasing investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency. We will buy and create more demand for electric cars and trucks. We will increase our efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions, create a clean energy economy, and stand for environmental justice. And if the President wants to break the promises made to our allies enshrined in the historic Paris Agreement, we’ll build and strengthen relationships around the world to protect the planet from devastating climate risks.

The world cannot wait — and neither will we.(source credit: PoliticusUSA)

Statement of Al Gore;

“Removing the United States from the Paris Agreement is a reckless and indefensible action. It undermines America’s standing in the world and threatens to damage humanity’s ability to solve the climate crisis in time.

But make no mistake: if President Trump won’t lead, the American people will. Civic leaders, mayors, governors, CEOs, investors and the majority of the business community will take up this challenge.

We are in the middle of a clean energy revolution that no single person or group can stop. President Trump’s decision is profoundly in conflict with what the majority of Americans want from our president; but no matter what he does, we will ensure that our inevitable transition to a clean energy economy continues.”         – Al Gore, Environmentalist, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, 45th US Vice President (source credit: HollywoodReporter)

Statement of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada;

“We are deeply disappointed that the United States federal government has decided to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. Canada is unwavering in our commitment to fight climate change and support clean economic growth. Canadians know we need to take decisive and collective action to tackle the many harsh realities of our changing climate.

“While the U.S. decision is disheartening, we remain inspired by the growing momentum around the world to combat climate change and transition to clean growth economies. We are proud that Canada stands united with all the other parties that support the Agreement. We will continue to work with our domestic and international partners to drive progress on one of the greatest challenges we face as a world.

“This is not only about the huge economic opportunities of clean growth and the need to address the pressing threats of climate change. This is about an ambitious and unshakeable desire to leave a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable planet for our kids and for generations to come.

“We are all custodians of this world, and that is why Canada will continue to work with the U.S. at the state level, and with other U.S. stakeholders, to address climate change and promote clean growth. We will also continue to reach out to the U.S. federal government to discuss this matter of critical importance for all humankind, and to identify areas of shared interest for collaboration, including on emissions reductions.”      – Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister, Canada (source credit: PM Website)

Statement of Japan’s Foreign Ministry;

“Climate change requires a concerted effort by the whole of the international community. Japan believes the leadership of the developed countries to be of great importance, and the steady implementation of the Paris agreement is critical in this regard. The recent announcement by the US administration on its withdrawal … is regrettable.” (source credit: theGuardian)

Statement of EU Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete;

“Today’s announcement has galvanised us rather than weakened us, and this vacuum will be filled by new broad committed leadership. Europe and its strong partners all around the world are ready to lead the way”

Statement of Prince Andrew of Monaco;

“This decision represents a very serious error of judgment for our planet and for future generations. It also weakens America’s global leadership and compromises the country’s own economic interests by underestimating the growth prospects offered by a low-carbon economy based on technological innovation.

“I want to believe that the states, the people and cities in American states which are already engaged in a virtuous cycle of transformation and those who understand the importance of this for future generations, will continue their efforts to promote low-carbon, sustainable and resilient economic growth.

“More than ever, the Principality of Monaco stands by its commitment to the fight against climate change with ambitious targets which exceed those set out in the Paris Agreement. I call upon all nations of the world, signatories to this Agreement, to continue and confirm their commitments in support of a cause that affects the preservation of the Earth and of humanity.” (credit source: royalcentral.co.uk)

#Plant-a-tree Do Not Deny #ClimateChange – Be A Part of #EarthDay #MarchforScience

By: Jalenn Turre, Marketing, Business & Social Media Strategist

“Today is #EarthDay so we rolled up our sleeves early to participate in our #treeplantingchallenge every year. This is our way of supporting #marchforscience and recognizing #EarthDay.

Everyone who believes about #RealScience and #NotClimateChangeDeniers participated in the #MarchforScience across the United States today.

I have planted my tree this year 2017. Last week, my elderly neighbor asked me to help them plant a tree in their lot, and we agreed to do it today in recognition of #EarthDay. How about you? There are many ways to participate in this in your own environment. Talk to your neighbors and friends; do something together to help sustain our natural environment.

A Climate Scientist from Pennsylvania State University Mr. Michael Mann shared his insights:

“We didn’t choose to be in this battle, but it has come to the point where we have to fight because the stakes are too great” source: wsvn.com

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau issued the following statements for #EarthDay.

“Today, we join the global community to celebrate Earth Day – a time to connect with nature and reaffirm our commitment to build a cleaner, more sustainable world for our children.

“As Canadians, we have a responsibility to safeguard our planet and natural treasures. I am proud of the steps our Government has taken to protect the environment and promote clean growth. These steps include historic domestic and international agreements that will help us respond to pressing environmental challenges, grow the economy, and build a cleaner, healthier tomorrow.

“On Earth Day, we recognize Indigenous cultures that have long understood the intricate links that exist between land, water, air, and all living things. Ensuring that decisions today serve generations tomorrow requires an active effort from all of us.

“Canada looks forward to hosting World Environment Day on June 5 this year. Like Earth Day, it will be an occasion to celebrate our connections to our environment and to each other.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, Sophie and I encourage all Canadians to take a moment today to go outside, find renewal in nature, and appreciate the environment that connects us all.” (source: http://pm.gc.ca/eng/)

Spring Empowers New Climate, Energy, Enthusiasm and Objectivity

By: Juntee Terrenal, GMS, ▪Competency ▪ Experience ▪ Results

Many if not majority was looking forward to the Spring Season; I have been longing for that change and empowerment. Now it is here, am very grateful and enjoying every moment.

Flowers were budding, trees were showing new life with their new shoots and leaves, grass becomes very green, the freshness of the air, the beauty of the horizon with sunsets, birds come and play in your garden, can see the squirrels jumping or running above fence, trimming and cleaning from the rummage of Winter; and the desire to cultivate, roll up the sleeves and begin gardening.

All of these provide pleasures of living, enjoy the ambiance of nature around us and the anticipation and witnessing the transformation of growth from the vegetable and flowering gardens that we create.

NASA just released their most recent findings pertaining to the impact of #climatechange; and it is very realistic. Last month was indeed very hot. Even friends across the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean were telling me that it was extraordinarily hot in their own locations as well.

According to NASA’s scientists at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies based in New York, August 2016 is hottest in 136 years. “We stress that the long-term trends are the most important for understanding the ongoing changes that are affecting our planet.” – said GISS Director Gavin Schmidt

The image below illustrates the ‘bell-curve graphics’ provided by NASA.

What’s going on in our planet Earth?

#Globalwarming is impacting us all. Published studies and ‘raw data-experiential reports’ were describing and illustrating unprecedented heat levels across regions around the globe. But the most embarrassing of it all is that many among our politicians are deniers about this fact. Their politics is placed ahead of the heat-waves that their constituencies were experiencing.

In my neighborhood, homes were built based on a cooler climate across four seasons. This Summer, more and more homes have installed air-conditioning units and they were running almost day in day out. That tells you how the temperatures during Summer has been affecting families in their own homes. What about those that cannot afford air-conditioning units? What will they do?

“It has been a record year so far for global temperatures, but the record high temperatures in the Arctic over the past six months have been even more extreme, this warmth as well as unusual weather patterns have led to the record low sea ice extents so far this year.” – said Walt Meier, a sea ice scientist at NASA Goddard.

What can individuals do to curb the increasing heat around them?

This Summer, it was great experiencing natural breeze of the wind, when you have trees around your home; cooling off under the trees during those high temperatures was helpful; the breeze was lovely.  When there were no breeze, the air-conditioning unit was the most convenient. Neighbors without air-conditioning units go to the nearest mall for a stroll or have snacks. Then go home when the temperature has gone down. For people who work, their employers provide a conducive air-conditioned work environment unless you are in construction.

Strategically for a long term adjustments of the #ClimateChange it would be ideal to plant a tree around you. When you find a space around your property, it will be a good investment of planting a tree that will provide some shade and other ecological benefits notwithstanding of their beautiful appearance.

A Tree Planting Challenge for Everyone:

Find a space around you, where you can plant a tree. Talk to friends and perhaps you can work together for a tree planting project at locations that are needing trees. Perhaps, there are areas within your communities that are needing some trees. Regardless of where you are located internationally, what matters is you can help in planting trees that will create a better environment around everyone. Trees provide many benefits beyond our expectations.

Last Spring, I planted a new tree at available space in our lot (see image below). This is the second year that I planted a tree. It looks great and survived the hot Summer. It will provide some substances that our planet needs to sustain a cooler temperature. It is only one tree that was planted last Spring, however when there will be more of us who will plant a tree once a year. We will be able to create a more balanced ecology for our own advantage in this earth.

2016-atreeplanted42016_climatechange

Tips in planting trees around your home:

When planting trees around your backyard or around your home, consider the aesthetic impact of the tree.  Plant something that will go with your current garden theme to maximize its benefits.  Consider the impact of the tree height when you are living in a neighborhood with HOA  (Home Owners Association) restrictions. For long term investment, follow the best practices in planting a tree so it will not die after few weeks. Planting a tree is your investment for the future that you will personally share with the world. Enjoy.

Are There Options? Balancing the ‘Ecosystem of the Planet Earth’

By Jalenn Turre, Marketing, Business & Social Media Strategist and Pete Earthlé, IdeasNConversations @IdeasN

In the Twenty-first Century, it is quite unbelievable seeing so called ‘new studies’ that come and go as fast as the social media churns out fact-based and or fictionally-biased information. Often, you will see newly labelled studies or new phenomena, suggesting new remedial options. These suggested new concepts and options are actually been told many times two or three decades ago. But perhaps some writers were not born yet during those periods.

In fact, reforestation an agro-forestry technique in preserving the natural wilderness of the planet earth have been practiced by many responsible individuals, groups and organizations who care about preserving the quality of our environment and balancing ecosystem. In many countries around the world, deforestation became prevalent due to lumber and logging practices and these have created imbalances of our ecosystems. Floods and erosion came and destructed communities as results of these man-made activities. Often, you hear focused-interest-groups, scientists and or elected individuals that do not acknowledge the links of both facts.

Today, from season to season we are seeing real-life results of mankind’s irresponsible abuse of the planet earth. The effects of ‘global warming’ like the fast changing climactic realities such as abnormal heatwaves or colder temperatures, coastal flooding that destroyed neighborhoods, droughts that caused firestorms including landslides and earthquakes (note: all link sources are acknowledged).

This is a new development. “The researchers found that only about 23 percent of the land across the globe can be labeled “wilderness” today — nearly a 10 percent drop from two decades ago. And those areas are concentrated mainly in North America, North Asia, North Africa, and Australia.” (source credit: theverge.com)

What this means?

The article confirmed that we are losing fast the wilderness that is a sanctuary of ecological balance. Mankind are not protecting trees and wild life in the forest. It pointed the continental locations of the affected areas. Ironically, those same places were experiencing frequent ‘global warming phenomena’ in the last five years.

Can we do something about it? How?

Yes, we can do some strategic contribution. Every individual can plant a tree anywhere possible every time convenient. This action will somehow help in augmenting the lost force of wilderness in the last two decades. Stop cutting trees around your neighborhood. Discuss about the advantages of preserving trees around people and within the environment. Trimming their crowns is OK because you are not cutting them down. When a big tree is being cut down due to its age and risks, do replace it with a young one that will grow and provide the lost substance from the old tree. So let’s start planting trees around us. ‘Till next time.

Gardening Has Began, It Brings Relaxing Spring, Full Summer Escapades and Environmental Benefits

By: Juntee Terrenal, GMS, ▪Competency ▪ Experience ▪ Results

We just passed the middle of March, and in the following week the North American Spring Season will begin. Gardening have started. It is exciting and very relaxing during the Spring Season. Notwithstanding with great weather, the plants continue to show their Spring growth, blooms of numerous flowers, luscious greens that reflect new life, the birds arrived to play in the garden and cannot wait to see the prospective results of my time and efforts in cultivating and nurturing our gardens for 2016.

Around the house, is showing the flowers of Snow Drops, Crocus, Daffodils, Azaleas, Hyacinths, Pussy willows, Primroses and the various colors of Heathers.  The beautiful and colorful showings of our Tulips will soon arrive.Below are few selections of flowers that adorning our yard.

@2016 FlowersSpring1

@2016 FlowersSpring2

On the other hand, the weather has been quite nice in the last two weeks, so i have started preparing and cleaning all winter twigs and weeds in order to set up my garden. It will be growing plenty of Summer vegetables that we will enjoy cooking and sharing with friends. These will be the likes of French and English beans, tomatoes, squash, lettuce, potato, sweet potato, green peas, and various herbs.  The photo below is a prior year preparation and setting of the garden. Have not taken a photo of the current garden, and they will be coming soon.

Additionally, my black currants, raspberries, blueberries are showing new leaves, soon their flowers will bear their fruits. Will be cultivating my strawberry garden and give a new planting so that their sweet fruits will be available at the beginning of Summer.

Quite exciting in the next weeks that will arrive. It will be fun and entertaining in creating the garden. How about you? Have you started prepping up your garden? The weather is becoming warmer so pull up your sleeves, take out your garden tools and start digging. While you are gardening, do not forget to help Mother Earth use natural and environmentally friendly materials. By doing that, you are slowing down the #ClimateChange.

Creating your own compost that will enrich your garden is equally beneficial to you personally and the environment. Have fun.

Action Must Begin with Less Nonsense Politicking “Nearly 200 Nations Accorded on Global #ClimateChange Framework”

By: Jalenn Turre, Marketing, Business & Social Media Strategist

Now that the Paris #ClimateChange Agreement has been signed off by almost 200 countries, an immediate action must be implemented across the globe in order to start  slowing down the dangerous #climatechange impact.

Overrule the skepticism and denials, action-driven strategies and participation are essential NOT politicking. This is a significant achievement in the 21st Century.

“Today thanks to strong, principled American leadership, we’ll leave our children a world that is safer and more secure, more prosperous and more free, and that is our most important mission in our short time here on this earth.” – said President Barack Obama (source: Politico)

It is however, the responsibility of everyone with every level of governments, corporations, organizations, and individual citizens) to participate actively in the execution of every type of action that will foster the objectives of this Paris Agreement in order to save Mother Earth.

“Decisive leadership and action from President Obama and other world leaders, an increasingly powerful climate movement, and strong progress in the U.S. and globally to move off coal cleared the way for every nation to come to the table. This historic international agreement is what the American people demanded, what future generations deserve, and what the world needs.” – said Michael Brune, Executive Director, Sierra Club (source: Politico)

“If agreed and implemented, this means bringing down greenhouse-gas emissions to net zero within a few decades. It is in line with the scientific evidence we presented,” said John Schellnhuber, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (source: BBC)

What are the Key Elements of the ClimateChange Agreement?

  • To keep global temperatures “well below” 2.0C (3.6F) and “endeavour to limit” them even more, to 1.5C
  • To limit the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by human activity to the same levels that trees, soil and oceans can absorb naturally, beginning at some point between 2050 and 2100
  • To review each country’s contribution to cutting emissions every five years so they scale up to the challeng
  • For rich countries to help poorer nations by providing “climate finance” to adapt to climate change and switch to renewable energy.

“It’s a victory for all of the planet and future generations,”  – said John Kerry, US Secretary of the State

“It is a victory for the most vulnerable countries, the small islands, the least developed countries and all those with the most to lose, who came to Paris and said they didn’t want sympathy, they wanted action.” – said Dr. Bill Hare, CEO of Climate Analytics

A Transparent and Accountable Agreement (source: White House)

The Paris Agreement establishes a robust transparency system to help make sure that all countries are living up to their commitments. This will send a market signal to the private sector and investors that countries are serious about meeting the targets they have set.  These steps include:

  • Putting in place an enhanced transparency system for all countries: A critical component of the Agreement, the transparency framework agreed to by parties ensures that all countries are on a level playing field with the United States with flexibility for those developing countries with less capacity.
  • Requiring countries to report on greenhouse gas inventories: For the first time, the Agreement requires all countries to report on national inventories of emissions by source. This breakthrough will give unprecedented clarity to the public’s understanding of emissions and pollution in countries throughout the world.
  • Requiring countries to report on mitigation progress: Also for the first time, countries are required to report on information necessary to track progress made in implementing and achieving the targets and strategies countries have put forward.
  • Establishing a technical review process with agreed upon standards: To help ensure countries are meeting transparency requirements, countries are subject to a comprehensive technical expert review process that analyzes whether reporting is in line with the standards adopted. Countries will also engage in a multilateral review with their peers to share their experiences and lessons learned.

A Personal Initiative On #ClimateChange “Everyone Can Participate”; Align with Global Initiatives

By: Juntee Terrenal, GMS, ▪Competency ▪ Experience ▪ Results

Why is #climatechange has already began dominating the airwaves? The topic is very relevant to current climate changes and phenomena around the world. The world leaders of 150 plus countries will converge in Paris at the end of this month to exchange deliberation about an international strategy that will ‘slow down’ the effect of #climatechange globally.

“It is not only our Leaders who can decide about what we do in slowing down the impact of ‘climatechange’. As citizens of the world, we too have responsibility in slowing it down.

   As we actively observed the every consequence of the changing climate around us; you and I can identify areas within our vicinity where we can make a difference in this international initiative. Your own personal participation can preserve Mother Earth from further deterioration”

“Man is the worst enemy of man. We can say it with terrorists. But we can say the same when it comes to climate. Human beings are destroying nature, damaging the environment and it is therefore for human beings to face up to their responsibilities for the future generations.

It’s a duty for mankind to be bold in the days to come to reach an agreement, a binding agreement, a universal agreement. One that is ambitious,” – said François Hollande, President of France at Commonwealth summit

With the Paris’ Climate Change Summit – the 21st Conference of Parties (COP 21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), it will bolster a significant stride about an international awareness pertaining to realistic condition of the Mother Earth and to reduce global greenhouse emissions.

Hopefully, everyone who will be actively listening will learn something from it. And will take a personal initiative in helping the ‘slowing down’ of the #climatechange. Let’s begin this in our own household and backyard. A small piece of participation will create greater impact to humanity because of our combined active role.

“We do not have the right to test the planet’s tolerance. We do, however, have the responsibility to act now and build truly resilient future and I am sure the Commonwealth and those here will play a critical part in this endeavour.” – said Prince Charles of Wales at Commonwealth Summit

“People want to do more. But they want to know that what they are doing fits into a bigger picture. Yes, every single one of us can, and should be, much more conscious of the ways we can act to reduce our carbon footprint, to have a greater impact on protecting the environment going forward.” – said Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada at COP21

In the last few years, we have seen before our very eyes that many places internationally were affected by unusual floods (United Kingdom, USA, the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Chile, etc), the most recent experiences of wildfires and droughts in California, Oregon and Washington.

When you have traveled internationally, there are many places with very pleasant climates. However, it the recent five years dramatic changes of high and scorching heat were unbearable. Within our own backyard alone, temperatures are dramatically changing on a particular season from extreme cold to extreme heat.

Yet, there are many people in the US Congress that are employed by taxpayers, who are enjoying the conveniences of air-conditioned offices; they believed #climatechange is not something that they will focus some attention with. The taxpayers who are paying their salaries are the ones who get the first hand experiences of weather changes but their representative couldn’t care less of finding alternative solutions that will help ease equal convenience of citizenry.

“The greatest obstacles we face in the fight against #climatechange aren’t technological or economic – they are political” – said President Barack Obama

While the intent of the Obama Administration is to protect the environment for the citizens of the United States and other nationals, as individuals we have responsibility to create techniques that will help in ‘slowing down’ climate change initiative.  Our contribution can create an impact towards a bigger scale.

Catholic Church Cardinal Peter Turkson says “people should be “encouraged” to exercise their “ecological citizenship” (source: BBC.com)

On a bigger picture, which ones are the bigger culprit that created the worsening #climatechange in our environment? The largest source of greenhouse gas emissions from human activities in the United States is from burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation. It is the big corporations that are using #fossilfuels and that are profiting from their use. Consumers enjoy the product they produce however. Yet the government give tax advantage to corporations that are creating the destruction of Mother Earth. (sourcecredit: EPA)

Backgrounder of Climate Change:

Climate change is caused by humankind’s increased emissions of greenhouse gases as well as other factors that are polluting our environment, the Mother Earth. Today,atmospheric CO2 levels are higher than ever before in human history.

Greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (C4H) and nitrous oxide (N2O) as well as fluoromethane (HFC) and perfluoromethane (PFC). Most abundantly emitted is CO2. But even though the share of methane and nitrous oxide is smaller, they still have a big impact: methane is 25 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2, and nitrous oxide is 300 times as harmful.
