It is Not an Employer’s or Government’s Choice that You Retire at 65: “It Is My Individual Choice”

By: Jalenn Turre, Marketing, Business & Social Media Strategist

You can retire at any time you like provided you have the means.

In today’s generation,  we have many ‘Entrepreneurs’ who have cracked the ceiling by pursuing faster lanes for retirement-ability than working for whole life, plus they still contribute to the ‘Social Security Program’. On the other hand, there are many hardworking individuals who built their resources successfully. However, many others are worried that they may not be able to retire at appropriate age. At the same time those that are working and will be working must participate in the Social Security Program.

“Who started the idea that one has to retire at 65 or 67 years of age?

This is a concept that was derived from Social Security Law, was created in 1935 that aimed to provide old age, survivors, and disability insurance benefits to workers and their families. When the worker reached 65 years of age, they can begin accessing the so called ‘Social Security Program Benefits’ that they are entitled with.  One must have been contributing certain percent of income since the individual started working, provided such employer has legitimately guiding that individual to pay their social security contribution.

Why not challenge yourself to retire sooner at the age of 55 and then enjoy living with your resources. This is doable Mr. Terrenal said; provided that you will keep self-discipline, self-drive and self-determination in achieving that personal goal.

Retiring from the environment of work is determined by us and not by the employer or the government. Many have achieved that goal, why can’t you.

Opportunities to retire at any age is open … no one can tell you when to begin retiring. the only challenge is do you have the means to retire sooner?

There are individuals and couples I knew that they achieved their goals of retiring at the age of 50, of which they set when they just started working. It is possible, and I did it for myself too.
