“It is great to see another member of the LGBTQ+ as #RealLeader of a nation; this time the Taoiseach of Ireland – Leo Varadkar. Congratulation and more power to the Prime Minister.
“He represents a younger generation. He represents a modern, diverse and inclusive Ireland and speaks for them like no other, an Ireland in which each person can fulfill their potential and live their dreams,” – Outgoing Prime Minister Enda Kenny (source: vox.com)
In April 2003, Leo Varadkar completed his six-year degree in medicine at Trinity College Dublin. He was a member of Young Fine Gael on campus and was elected as a councillor with 5,000 first preference votes a year after he entered politics. Leo is the first graduate of the college to be elected Taoiseach.
He is now in the Irish history book, as the first openly gay and country’s youngest prime minister, and the son of an Indian immigrant. Leo’s partner is Matthew Barrett, who is also a doctor by profession.
Leo Varadkar, 38 and newly elected Taoiseach of Ireland, is the EU’s youngest national leader; Jüri Ratas, is 38-year-old and the Prime Minister of Estonia, and Emmanuel Macron, 39, the recently elected President of France; the trio are all under the age of 40. (source reference: theguardian)
