During the Easter Weekend, which started from Maundy Thursday, 12 out of 16 states of Germany has a ban for dancing beginning Good Friday to Easter Saturday, particularly Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria in the south.
In Berlin, a dance ban is in effect from 4am – 9pm of Good Friday.
Such bans across the 12 states of Germany provide a religious observance during the period. It has been a practice across religious circles who observe the days of mourning for Jesus’ death, and are considered “holidays of silence”.
